Working near energized conductors
Overhead power lines have a limit of approach; a safe distance workers must keep while working. Only trained workers may operate up to the limit of approach. It's important everyone on the jobsite fully understands the hazards when working close to energized conductors.
Workers who have completed a training course approved by WorkSafeBC may work up to the adjusted limits of approach, provided certain conditions exist.
Prior to commencement of work
A list of the types of work under section 19.27(1) or 19.27(2) of the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation is to be submitted in writing to the WorkSafeBC Prevention Practice, Quality, and Engineering Support department. The request should include:
- A list of the types of work intended to be performed under section 19.27 of the OHS Regulation
- An explanation of why the work must be done within the general limits of approach for energized equipment, as specified in Table 19-2.
See OHS Guideline G19.27 for additional information.
