BOD Decision – 2006/07/25-03 – Amendments to the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation
The Board of Directors approved amendments to Parts 4, 5, 9, 13, 14, 20, 23 and 24 of the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation in July 2006. These approved amendments relate to the public hearings conducted in May 2006:
Part 4, General Conditions Section 4.3, Safe machinery and equipment
Part 5, Chemical and Biological Substances Section 5.49, Excursion limits
Part 9, Confined Spaces Section 9.11, Qualifications Section 9.18, Isolation Section 9.22, Alternate procedures
Part 13, Ladders, Scaffolds and Temporary Work Platforms Section 13.23, Testing Section 13.33, Fall protection
Part 14, Cranes and Hoists Section 14.34, Operator qualifications Section 14.91, Hoisting ropes
Part 20, Construction, Excavation and Demolition Section 20.4, Safe access
Part 23, Oil and Gas Section 23.14, Pumps
Part 24, Diving, Fishing and Other Marine Operations Fishing Operations Section 24.93, Requirements for sensors and alarms Requirements for Specific Fishing Operations Section 24.104, Drums Section 24.106, Work areas
Part 26, Forestry Operations Section 26.11, Dangerous trees Part 1, Definitions (consequential to proposed amendments to Part 26) The Board of Directors did not approve these proposed amendments as a review of Part 26 in its entirety is included in the 2007 regulatory workplan.
The Board of Directors also approved an additional public hearing in the fall of 2006, as part of the 2006 regulatory process, to consider expanding the scope of the requirements in Part 6, Substance Specific Requirements, to include safety-engineered devices for all hollow-bore needles and other medical sharps.
