Nurses’ Experiences of Workplace Violence: Towards Effective Intervention
This study explored nurses’ experiences of violence encountered in the context of their work. The researchers sought to understand nurses’ perceptions of the impact workplace violence has on their ability to feel safe, healthy, and supported in the workplace, as well as the impact these experiences have on their ability to function effectively at work. This information will be used to refine an existing anti-violence program and will form the basis for a future, more comprehensive intervention study on effective antiviolence programming
The study included a review of incident reports, interviews with 30 nurses in community and clinical settings, and the development of a DVD on workplace violence that features demonstrations of techniques for de-escalating potentially violent situations
