Incident summary
A police officer was attending a firearms qualification training course at a firearms range. When the officer was drawing his firearm from his holster, the firearm discharged, causing a bullet to strike his leg.


Investigation conclusions

Cause

  • Inadvertent discharge of firearm by worker. The investigation determined that during the process of pulling the firearm up and out of the holster, the officer’s trigger finger likely contacted the firearm’s trigger. This inadvertent contact caused the trigger to engage and discharge a bullet.
