Tailored sun safety messages for outdoor workers

This project aims to conduct a qualitative study to develop a set of practical messages for sun safety to prevent skin cancer, heat stress, and eye damage, for outdoor workers and their employers. The researchers note that there are about 1.5 million outdoor workers in Canada, and over one third are in British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan. The project aims to fill a gap to tailor sun safety messages for outdoor workers, a population that is particularly at risk for skin cancer.

The researchers will conduct a literature search and consult with experts who develop sun safety messages for the general population. Specific messaging will be tailored for outdoor workers, and then presented to stakeholders for feedback. The stakeholder group includes outdoor workers, dermatologists, and industry and labour experts. The researchers will then develop educational materials, allowing users to access the sun safety materials anytime.
