Minimum first aid requirements

Step 1: Determine the number of workers per shift

Count every worker at your workplace (worksite) or on this shift, including dispatched workers, managers, and supervisors. Consult G3.16 of the OHS Guidelines for more information about determining the number of workers.

Step 2: Determine your hazard rating

Is this a separate administrative work location?
Separate administrative work locations are those locations where the substantive hazards of the industry are not present.

Consult WorkSafeBC’s Industry classification search tool and locate your classification unit (CU) by inputting your industry name or searching by sector and subsector.

Use the industry classification search tool to select an alternative classification unit that is more consistent with the activities occurring at this workplace.

Identify the appropriate hazard rating for this workplace. The hazard rating you identify should not be lower than the hazard rating associated with your assigned classification unit, except as outlined in G3.16.

Step 3: Determine your workplace class

Determine if your workplace is remote

Is your workplace located on a road that cannot be made accessible to a British Columbia Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) ambulance?

Remote
How long does it typically take to drive from your workplace to the nearest ambulance station operated by BCEHS?
Use an online mapping tool to estimate time during a typical work shift.
