No more excuses for drinking and driving

Richmond, B.C., July 4, 2008 — Drinking and driving isn’t cool, and neither is making excuses. That’s why WorkSafeBC has joined ICBC in reminding everyone who plans on drinking this summer to also make plans to get home safely.

We’ve all heard people say, “I always make it home after a few,” “I can handle my liquor,” or “One more drink won’t hurt.” But if you drink and drive, you put yourself and others at risk.

ICBC is sending a message to impaired drivers that it’s time to bury those excuses, through several hard-hitting TV, radio, and poster ads. Police across the province will also be stepping up enforcement to combat drinking and driving.

Roughly 116 people die each year in B.C. in alcohol-related collisions. Make sure you’re not the cause of one of those collisions by planning ahead:

  • Set aside money for a cab or public transit
  • Choose a designated driver
  • Get a ride with a sober friend or family member
  • Never let a person who’s been drinking get behind the wheel
