October 19, 2007 — WorkSafeBC’s Richmond complex has won the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) Canada National Earth Award, which recognizes excellence in environmentally sound office building management.
The award was presented on September 19, at BOMA Canada’s National Conference and Exposition in Toronto.
To qualify, candidates had to submit an extensive application describing their innovation and accomplishments in numerous areas such as effective management of environmental risks, water and energy conservation, and staff communication.
WorkSafeBC was praised for its efforts in energy management, indoor air quality, recycling, employee awareness programs, and health and safety.
BOMA Earth awards have three levels of competition: local, national, and international. WorkSafeBC won the BOMA BC Earth in May of this year, and now, as winner of the national competition, WorkSafeBC is eligible to compete in the BOMA international awards, to be presented in June, 2008, in Denver, Colorado.
Says Vaughan Bowser, WorkSafeBC’s vice-president of Human Resources: “This award shows our level of commitment to protecting the environment and building a socially responsible and environmentally sustainable organization.”
