Teleclaim FAQs

Teleclaim is now available on Vancouver Island. If you live outside of Vancouver Island, watch for more details on the availability of Teleclaim, coming to your area in 2007.

What is Teleclaim?

Teleclaim is a new contact centre that you can call if you're injured at work on Vancouver Island and have missed work as a result of your injury.

Why is WorkSafeBC introducing Teleclaim?

Teleclaim responds to service priorities identified by workers to WorkSafeBC. Through extensive surveys, workers repeatedly stated that their top priorities are to receive service that's compassionate, to be treated like an individual, to ensure their fears are addressed, and to receive support for return to work. Teleclaim is designed to better respond to those needs by providing personal service tailored to the unique circumstances of each injured worker.

What will be different with Teleclaim?

Until recently, to report injuries, workers submitted an application for compensation to WorkSafeBC. By mid-2007, through Teleclaim, all workers in B.C. will be able to report injuries over the phone and receive personal assistance as soon as they are injured — helping them with their recovery and return to work.

What are the benefits of Teleclaim for workers?

For workers, Teleclaim will:

  • Provide a single point of contact to report injuries.
  • Provide a simplified process to report injuries.
  • Present opportunities for workers to receive services tailored to their unique needs.
  • Reduce the amount of paperwork they're required to complete and submit to WorkSafeBC.
  • Help reduce the fear and confusion they often experience when they are first injured.
  • Help them gain a clearer understanding of the claims process, worker responsibilities, and of the services available to help them with their recovery and return to work.
  • Help accelerate the injury reporting process, disability management services, and the processing of wage loss payments.

What are the benefits of Teleclaim for employers?

For employers, Teleclaim will:

  • Facilitate improved communication and faster notification of an injury. Teleclaim is designed to streamline injury reporting. As a result, employers will be informed of an injury to one of their workers in a timelier manner.
  • Decrease their administrative work.
  • Eventually provide the option for them to submit injury reports online.
  • Help foster a greater understanding of the claims process, and of services available to help their workers with their recovery and return to work.

What are the benefits of Teleclaim for physicians?

For physicians, Teleclaim will:

  • Improve the timeliness of billing since many injured workers will already have a claim number when they first visit their physician.
  • Ensure a claim number is available for MSP billing purposes when an injured worker seeks medical attention.

What should I do if I'm injured at work?

If you are injured at work or have symptoms of a work-related illness, you must:

  • Step 1: Report it to your employer immediately.
  • Step 2: Seek medical attention and tell your doctor your injury is work-related.
  • Step 3: Start a claim by reporting it to WorkSafeBC as soon as possible. If you live on Vancouver Island and have missed work as a result of your injury, contact Teleclaim.
  • Step 4: Keep your employer and WorkSafeBC informed of your progress.

What will happen if I'm injured and I call Teleclaim?

When you call Teleclaim, 1-888-WORKERS (or #5377 on your cellphone if you are a Telus Mobility, Rogers, or Bell Mobility customer), one of our representatives will provide you with assistance. We'll complete an injury report on your behalf, explain the claims process, answer your questions, and help you obtain services to assist you with your return to work.

If I'm a Vancouver Island employer and one of my workers is injured, do I still need to submit an injury report?

Yes, for the time being, employers will continue to submit workplace injury reports (Form 7) if one of their workers suffers an injury. However, to streamline injury reporting even further, through Teleclaim, in the future employers will have the option of receiving these reports online — completed by WorkSafeBC— for their review and submission.

When is Teleclaim being introduced?

Teleclaim was launched on Vancouver Island on October 2, 2006, and will be available to the rest of the province by the spring of 2007.

Why is Teleclaim only available on Vancouver Island?

Teleclaim represents a major shift in how WorkSafeBC provides service to injured workers. To ensure the move to this new service is as smooth as possible, WorkSafeBC is staggering the implementation of Teleclaim, starting with Vancouver Island in October 2006, and the rest of B.C. by the spring of 2007.

How do I contact Teleclaim?
