The 2006 figures reflect an aggregate base rate of $1.90 per $100 of employer's assessable payroll, 3.5 percent less than the 2005 rate of $1.97.
The reduction reflects recent years' trends of stable injury rates, lower duration of injuries, and the success of the WorkSafe initiative - the shared commitment of employers, workers and WorkSafeBC (the Workers' Compensation Board) - to prevent injuries, diseases and fatalities from occurring.
The aggregate rate is a composite of rates in 88 individual rate groups. Approximately 60 percent of B.C.'s 179,000 employers will see base rates remain the same or drop, while 40 percent will experience base rate increases.
