Expedited Medical Imaging Services
Description of services
Facilities that provide Expedited Medical Imaging Services offer any or all of the following procedures:
- Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) with or without contrast including MRI Arthrogram
- Computerized Tomography (CT) scan with or without contrast
- Ultrasound
Service locations
Expedited Medical Imaging Services are offered at WorkSafeBC-approved facilities throughout B.C.
Referral process
All referrals for diagnostic procedures must be pre-authorized by WorkSafeBC.
For community physicians who want to make a referral for expedited medical imaging services, please do the following:
- Make a note in the ‘Clinical information’ section of the Physician’s Report (Form 8/11)
- Complete a Requisition for Medical Imaging Form 83D56 (PDF or Word)
Charge fee code 19480 Expedited MRI/CT/Ultrasound Requisition for completing the Requisition for Medical Imaging Form. For referrals initiated by community physicians and received by the imaging facility without prior authorization by WorkSafeBC, a copy of the imaging study requisition must be faxed to the Visiting Specialists' Clinic (VSC) at 604 214-6799 for approval, prior to providing any services to the injured worker.
The imaging facility is responsible for booking and confirming the date and time of the diagnostic procedure(s) with the injured worker.
