Orthotics and WorkSafeBC

WorkSafeBC does not currently have a formal agreement for the provision of orthotic services (custom-made orthotic device, excluding off-the-shelf and custom-fitted device).

We may authorize orthotic services performed by the following qualified providers:

Certified Pedorthist – C. Ped (C)
Certified Pedorthic Master Craftsman – C. Ped MC
Certified Pedorthists shall only provide orthotics below the ankle for injured workers. Invoices for the provision of any orthotic devices at or above the ankle level (e.g. ankle/foot orthotics (AFOs) and knee braces) will not be reimbursed.

Podiatrist (Doctor of Podiatric Medicine) – D.P.M.

Podiatrists registered under the Podiatrists Act who hold the academic qualification of Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (D.P.M.) are eligible to provide orthotic services to injured workers.

Podiatrists shall only provide orthotics below the knee for injured workers. Invoices for the provision of any orthotic devices at or above the knee level (e.g. knee braces) will not be reimbursed.

Certified Orthotist – C.O. (c)
Certified Prosthetists and Orthotists – C.P.O. (c)
Certified Orthotists are eligible to provide any orthotic devices to injured workers.

To verify the status of a claim

Phone the WorkSafeBC Claims Call Centre to determine if a claim has been submitted and accepted.

Authorization process

It is essential that a WorkSafeBC officer pre-authorization is obtained in writing prior to providing any orthotic devices and/or services by completing Form 83D20: Request for Authorization for Orthotic Services.

Fax the completed authorization form to the WorkSafeBC officer for approval prior to providing the service:

Billing process

Upon receipt of approval from the WorkSafeBC officer, please provide the injured worker with the appropriate devices and services, and complete Form 83D16: Invoice for Orthotic Services.

When completing the invoice, please indicate the appropriate item code for the device supplied under the “Fee code” column.
