Aaron Feldman

Investigations Officer
Fatal and Serious Injury Division
Richmond, B.C.

“My job involves looking into workplace incidents resulting in serious injury or death. It’s varied and challenging — I’m involved in conducting interviews, researching, and analyzing findings. I never know when I'll have to respond to a fatality or serious injury and start a new investigation.

A big part of my job is interacting with seriously injured workers, and their employers and families, and with the employers and families of deceased workers; these are highly emotional situations, so it’s important to keep in mind you have a job to do.

Another challenge is being able to handle the workload. I’m often dealing with several active files in various stages of investigation at once. But I work in a team environment where I know I can count on the support and assistance of my colleagues.

Being part of a team is one of the best things about my job. We’re constantly working together to make a difference. When we discover an unsafe procedure or piece of equipment, we send notices to industry employers and manufacturers calling for change, so hopefully the same incident won’t happen twice. Knowing I’m helping workers get home safe at the end of each day — to me, there couldn't be a better reward.”
